When I was little
the government passed a law saying that all life partners were to be picked at the age of ten
this was simple
courting, dating, marriage...
was complicated
all the children were brought to a room
a warehouse of sorts
there where no adults
no one was allowed to be there when we picked
not even our parents
...
who knows what to look for when put on the spot
some people say ten isn't old enough to know anything
much less to know about love
we scampered and scurried for what seemed like days
boys fought
hell at that age
the girls fought too
looking back on it I think we were all scared
and somehow through all the chaos
and games of tag
I found you...
I'm not sure if it was love at first sight
I was only ten
some say it takes a ten year old to believe in something crazy
like love at first sight
I don't know
what I do know is
from that moment on
you were my first choice for kick ball
and soccer
and life
if I'm team captain
you're always my first pick
You have a way with words that kind of angers me, and you've always been that way, and always will be. I'm jealous because you bring out the best in people, and you brought out the best in me. Now I look at what I've become, and you're still the same. I mean, I'm still the same, only now I can't drop into your world when mine is upside down, so I'm sort of lost now. I just browse life, not really shopping for anything because I already had the best of everything, and I sold it all for cheap thrills.
